At last, a blog.

I’ve always loved to write. I’ve always had so much to say but not once did I ever think of starting a blog. I just knew that it would be tedious. (And I never liked tedious. :P) Now, however, I feel like there’s reason for me to finally do this. The inspiration to finally start a blog came from one of my movie marathons when I stumbled upon two films: Peaceful Warrior and One Week.

Let me fill you in on the movies first…

“One Week” is about a man who finds out he has cancer and is in immediate need of treatment. However, instead of having himself treated, he decides to go on a trip which leads him to reexamine his life and… well, I wouldn’t want to spoil it, do I? (Go watch the movie if you can; it’s satisfying enough even if I did not like how it ended.) My point is the film made me have an epiphany of some sort. I want to carpe the hell out of every diem. I don’t want to live a single moment of my life in fear even if there’s a shitload of things to be fearful of. I want to do things that make me feel most alive. Ultimately, the film led me to make a “life list” (more about this later).

“Peaceful Warrior,” on the other hand, is about a troubled gymnast who meets a “spiritual guide” to help him understand some deep life crap philosophy. I found out that it’s actually based on the book “Way of the Peaceful Warrior” by Dan Millman (who’s also the protagonist of the story). The film taught me this: “There’s never nothing going on. There are no ordinary moments.” (If you didn’t notice, the name of my blog actually came from this quote – so thanks Mr. Millman!) It also spoke of a number of life lessons that one ought to understand if he is to live a life of purpose and ambition. Again, it all boils down to me making a list of things I want to do: my not-a-bucket list.

Now, about the list…

I’m calling it “30 before 30.” I think of it as a “life list.” It is much like a bucket list but because there really is no telling when I’ll be kicking the bucket, I do not want to think of it that way. It is a list of 30 things that I shall have done by the time I turn 30. Some of these things are as easy as traveling while some (like climbing 50 mountains) can be really difficult. Some of them are things that I have already done (like seeing penguins up close) while others are things that I might not be able to do at all (like perfecting my hand stand! :P) No matter, I have decided to commit to this list and I will do my best to finish it.

Ultimately, my 30 before 30 list is the main purpose of starting this blog. I want to write about all of my memorable experiences; those that I’ve had and those that I’ve yet to do. I want to go into this journey and keep a little something more than just souvenirs. I want this to be my journal, my diary, my memoir. I do this for myself and for whoever may read this (if it would be read at all :P). In here, I will spill all my thoughts and share all my learning. So to you who may be reading this, (600 words and counting… aren’t you a patient one?! But hey, thanks!) I hope you get to come back for more. And as I live the next few years to the fullest, I hope you will, too. 🙂

  2. Reblogged this on Never Nothing Going On and commented:

It has already been five months since I started this blog. In this first post, I explained why I decided to start it. Now, I am posting it again to remind myself of what I wanted to accomplish in the first place. 🙂
